Abstract
What are the Industry Reports used for?
The Industry Background Reports are designed to provide a Comprehensive list of all companies
with any involvement in the specific disease or technology, while, at the same time, presenting all
current news issued by those companies, and all current news about the specific disease or
technology. The reports are an excellent first place to begin any competitive intelligence, market
analysis, business development, or due diligence research.
Where does the data come from?
The content of the SmartReports Industry Background Reports is derived from two proprietary
databases, the Biomedical NewsAnalyzer database and the Biomedical IndustryAnalyzer database.
The NewsAnalyzer database contains all press releases issued by all companies in the biomedical
industries, including the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, bioinformatics, diagnostics, medical
device, equipment, drug delivery, and contract research and manufacturing sectors. There are over
4200 such companies and the database is updated daily.
The IndustryAnalyzer database contains much of the content of over 4600 biomedical company
websites (including all those companies in the NewsAnalyzer database). This includes contact
information, descriptions, products, and management.
What does each report contain?
The Industry Background Reports contain the following sections:
- 1.List of all companies involved with the specific disease or technology. A company will be
included if the specific word or phrase appears anywhere on its website. (Note: the word may not
appear in the company profile included in the report.)
- 2.Descriptions of each company. This includes the overview and contact information, as well as
the headlines of all press releases issued by the company during the past twelve months.
- 3.Related news This includes the headlines and first paragraphs of all press releases mentioning
the disease or technology and issued by all companies in the NewsAnalyzer database during the twelve
months prior to the date of the report.
- 4.Summary contact information This section contains the contact information for all companies
included in the report.
How often is the data updated?
The company profiles are fully updated on an annual basis, and more frequently in response to
important news from press releases. The NewsAnalyzer database is updated daily. Each Industry
Background Report is updated at the start of each calendar quarter.
The Reports are very large. Is it possible to search them for specific words or phrases?
Yes. The reports documents are all prepared in PDF format. Adobe Acrobat has a built-in search
function. Once the report is open, click on the Search button at the top. Use Help to get a full set
of search instructions.
