In the past 20 over years, many modern railways like MRT/LRT systems were built in many major Asia cities. These railways provide an important public transport backbone along the busy corridors of cities to provide an efficient way of moving people safely, enhancing their lives and also to alleviate traffic congestion.
With more of these high technological systems being built, there is an ever increasing need for railway professionals to build, operate and maintain these systems reliably, safely and cost effectively.
The participation of the operations and maintenance professionals begins at the early stage to provide the necessary operator’s input through system design reviews, integrated testing and commissioning and preparation for trial run and revenue service before committing to the next 30 to 40 years of operating and maintaining the system.
Objectives and agenda:
Using the Singapore MRT as an example, the workshop aims to demonstrate the systematic approach of transforming a new metro system from the trial-run stage to revenue-making operations. The agenda will focus on establishing a management system, including the safety and security system, to operate and maintain the metro effectively.
