Africa segment: International trade and the exchange of ideas are essential to a country's success. Therefore the cost of international bandwidth poses a significant barrier to the ability of African countries to participate in world trade and to increase their capacity and skills. Without cheaper international bandwidth Africa runs the danger of being left behind in the global race. Africa has also amongst the highest bandwidth costs in the world and a pressing need for greater connectivity. This     segment explores one of the earliest African submarine cable project backed by the World Bank and government initiatives.

11.30am
EASSy
The Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy) is a landmark fiber-optic cable project that will connect 21 African countries to each other and the rest of the world with high-quality internet. This project case study will share the lessons learnt     form conceptualization to real project implementation and experiences working with World Bank.

Mr John Sihra, Chairman,
West Indian Ocean Cable Company

Caribbean segment: In recent years, there has been renewed interest for submarine capacity within the Caribbean and a lack of capacity specifically designed to handle intra-regional traffic. The extent that capacity upgrades are occurring on the  major submarine fiber optic trunk routes, new branches are being added to existing systems, and new construction projects are being discussed. In this segment, we explore one of the newest short haul cable project in the Caribbean.
