CONFERENCE PROGRAM TRACK:
WiMAX Applications and Services
Track Leader: Monica Paolini, Senza Fili Consulting
Compelling applications and services are necessary for luring subscribers to WiMAX networks. WiMAX is in the early-mover position, approximately 2-3 years ahead of LTE, to define mobile internet access through the use of proven IP standards. The ability for WiMAX to flourish as a stand-alone radio area network is relatively untested. Combining WiMAX radios with cellular voice and Wi-Fi presents new usage scenarios. The Application and Services conference track encourages network operators, design engineers, and the content community to examine new device categories, value-add services and how to monetize over-the-top IP services.

WiMAX operators are ready to sign up customers. To attract new subscribers, they need to go beyond the service offering of wireline broadband providers and mobile operators, and add services and applications that generate revenues and that are compelling. How can they meet the challenge to be the operators to sign up the first million subscribers? Where will they come from幼onsumer, business or vertical segments?

What are subscribers, enterprises, or content distributors willing to pay for? Unicast or broadcast video, advanced VoIP services, gaming, content downloads, location-based services, vertical applications, or something else? |
