The global point to point (PTP) radio market grew by 32.7% in units in 2006, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled "Global Digital PTP Radio Market Analysis and Forecast, 2006-2011." "The PTP radio market continued to show strong growth in 2006 as emerging markets accounted for nearly half of the overall market demand," says founder and President, Earl Lum.
India was the third largest region for PTP radio shipments and the largest single country for PTP radio shipments in 2006. The emerging Ultra High Capacity Ultra High Frequency (UHCUHF) radio segment, using the 60-90GHz frequency spectrum, experienced a more than tripling growth rate in 2006 with strong demand forecasted through 2011 while penetration of Ethernet PTP radios continued to grow.
The report provides a unique perspective on the global shipments and demand for digital PTP radio equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ceragon Networks, Ericsson, Harris Stratex Networks, NEC, Nera Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks, SAF Tehnika, Sagem, and SIAE Microelettronica.
"The top three OEMs remain Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and NEC," says Lum.
"The PTP radio market continues to be driven by 2G and 3G base station deployments. We anticipate that emerging applications such as WiMAX may drive additional demand for PTP radios as networks are deployed," says Lum.
