Combined European region most active, ahead of Asia Pacific

Total contracts awarded within the wireless industry for Q2 reached 156, up 24% from Q2 2008 levels and up 24% sequentially according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research, titled "Global Base Station Contract Analysis, Second Quarter 2009." "Nokia Siemens Networks secured 53.2% of total contract awards during the June 30, 2009 ended quarter, beating Huawei (19.9%) and ZTE (18.6%). Chinese OEMs captured 38.5% of overall contracts in Q2, up from 31.8% in Q1," says founder and President, Earl Lum.

"Demand remains heavily concentrated in Asia Pacific (China & India) while surprisingly, Western and Eastern Europe were tied as the second most active regions during the quarter. Chinese OEMs continue to dominate the CDMA2000 segment as they captured 92.6% of global contracts in Q2. Nokia Siemens Networks led the way with 61.3% of total WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ awards, followed by Huawei with 17.7% and ZTE at 12.9%. 3G/3.5G/3.75G/4G contracts were 56.7% of total contracts," says Lum.

The base station contract analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the global cellular/PCS base station contract awards and demand for mobile base station equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel Networks, and ZTE.
