Abstract
Brought to you in association with QAD, the primary purpose of this report is
to record and analyse recognised international data relating to the
production, import and export of automotive components in order to shed light
on the widely held view that automotive component production has largely
migrated in its first support phase, from west to central Europe and in its
second phase is now moving even further to eastern Europe. In analysing this
shift the report seeks to quantify this movement and where possible, to offer
a prognosis for the future.
The time scale for the report covers the 1995 - 2005 period and 2006 where
possible and depending on data reliability the report also seeks to offer
reliable prognoses for the future, based on verifiable estimates and/or
forecasts.
The report also seeks to shed light on an underlying confusion on the rather
tired lexicon of "east" and "west" or what is meant by these references or to
see this movement as a kind of earth shattering revolution. OEMs in the
automotive industry are following the same well-trodden path as those in other
industries have chosen before.
