Abstract
Argentina’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as
including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming
products, is projected to be worth around US$4.1bn in 2008. A sharp
slowdown impacted the market in H109, but spending is expected to grow a CAGR
of 7.4% to US$5.4bn by 2013, driven by demand for LCD TV sets, notebook
computers, digital cameras and other key products, and by rising incomes
and greater credit availability.
Computers
Computer hardware accounted for around 50% of Argentinean consumer electronics spending in 2008,
with PC penetration still below 25%. BMI forecasts Argentinean
domestic market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories)
of approaching US$1.7bn in 2009, up from US$1.5bn in 2008. Computer
hardware compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2008-2013 period
is forecast at about 7%, driven by sales of notebooks and netbooks.
AV Devices
AV devices accounted for around 38% of Argentinean consumer
electronics spending in 2008. Argentina’s domestic AV device
market is projected at US$1.5bn this year. Sales of digital TV sets
and digital cameras are projected to drive AV spending growth at a
projected CAGR of 8.6% between 2009 and 2013.
Mobile Handsets
Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of Argentinean consumer
electronics spending in 2008. Following a reverse in 2009, Argentinean
market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 4% to US$477mn
in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 129%. Sales will be
dominated by the replacement market, with growing demand for
smartphones, PDAs and 3G handsets.
