Contrary to the claims of many industry pundits, the long-haul systems industry is not moribund, and will show signs of recovery this year. In the near term, that recovery will mean increased sales of cards to extend the capacity of existing systems but soon sales of new systems will pick up as well, as carriers find they have to extend the capacity and capabilities of their networks.
This new report presents detailed market forecasts of the long-haul market over the next four years, based on analysis of demand trends, and interviews with carriers and equipment vendors. Forecasts for systems are broken down by technology (WDM, SONET and switching), and by data-rate, channel count, and reach where appropriate, while switching sales are broken down by whether the switching fabric is optical or electrical. Graphs are included to show key aspects of each market at-a-glance.
