Summary: a brief statement of the content of the report
The largest markets for the furniture sector in Latin America have been
grouped in this collection of country reports entitled "The furniture
industry in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico
Mexico and Brazil by far are the largest furniture manufacturers of this area
and the main exporters of furniture to the United States from Latin America.
Logistics and proximity to the U.S. market are an obvious advantage driving
more than 80% of Mexican products to its northerly neighbour. Brazil has a
skilled work force and a number of modernized factories that are trying to
become more competitive by offering new products every year and finding
alternative distribution channels.
Production in Chile has grown by 8% annually during the last 7 year.
Argentina offsets a part of the decrease of the furniture production with a
growth of the ratio imports/consumption.

The wood and forestry sector is also considered: production, imports, exports
