Abstract
The global automotive industry will likely enter recovery next year, with
growth in vehicle production and in automotive semiconductors consumption;
safety applications in particular are expected to generate the most revenue
for semiconductor suppliers, driven by customer preference and government
requirements for new and improved features.
Automotive semiconductor products are found in multiple systems, including
safety, drivetrain & body, infotainment, and more, such as in the cockpit
electronics sold in the aftermarket segment. Databeans forecasts that the
market for semiconductors in automotive applications is growing at a compound
annual growth rate of 10 percent, and should exceed $24.5 billion by 2014. The
fastest-growing application market segments include safety and infotainment.
Safety systems are a fast-growing consumer of automotive semiconductors, due
to increased demand coming from governmental regulations and by drivers' own
expressed preferences for more features. Databeans estimates that safety
systems will contribute about $3.6 billion in automotive semiconductor revenue
for 2009.
