Abstract

Introduction

Based on Datamonitor' s essential market data and insight into the country' s leading fuel retailers, this profile provides you with an up-to-date picture of the service station retailing sector. In addition to outlining site numbers, fuel sales, competitor shares, c-store, car wash and automatic network data, it also details retailers' fuels, c-store, car wash and card product offerings.

Scope of this research

  • Data and analysis based on an annual programme of research with national service station retailers and delivered in a useable presentation format.
  • A country synopsis followed by a market examination of fuel demand and value, total service stations and vehicle numbers for 5 years to January 2009.
  • A review of the competitive landscape including fuel sales by service station brand, motorway and unmanned formats and shop and car wash information.
  • Insight into the main competitors' propositions for fuels, c-store, food service, cards and car wash as well as ownership and network expansion plans.

Research and analysis highlights

As the proportion of diesel cars on Slovenia' s roads has been rising, diesel consumption has increased substantially, from 1,216 million litres in 2007 to 1,677 million litres in 2008, a growth rate of 38.0%. Over the same period petrol consumption grew by 5.1%. The growth rates of the diesel and petrol car parcs were 39% and 9% respectively.

Petrol Slovenia branded service stations account for 71% of total outlets in Slovenia, having increased by 10% since 2004. This is by far the biggest rise out of all other fuel retailers in the country. However, its market volume share has been steadily declining by an annual average of 1.4% since 2004 due to smaller fuel retailers gaining ground.

There are 132 stations with a car wash. The OMV car wash sites operate under the OMV Top Wash brand. The OMV Top Wash automatic washes offer five different programmes. The premium programme is Superb Care + Topwax, which finishes with a coat of OMV' s Topwax premium waxing treatment. Vacuum cleaners are available for the interior of the car.
