Abstract
At the start of 2009, with 480 MW of CSP installed globally and another 800 MW
under construction in Spain, the CSP industry is gaining momentum - yet
significant permitting and regulatory hurdles remain. With close to 130
projects under development in Spain and over 50 projects in the US pipeline,
the CSP sector will demand as much as US$80 billion of investment over the
next decade. Led by financially - sound first - movers with CSP plants under
construction, a host of new entrants are now vying for CSP market share.
A new study from EER, Global Concentrated Solar Power Markets and Strategies
2009 - 2020, is a critical resource to help guide you through the challenging
global CSP landscape, and prepare for the next wave of growth. Which emerging
CSP technologies will survive? How much will new technologies drive down
costs? When will the US market take off? Which new markets - China, India,
Algeria, Libya - - will develop CSP plants in the next decade? Following
are just a few of the key trends addressed in EER' s new study:
- Global CSP players altering their strategies amidst the backdrop of a
troubled global economy. With tax equity slashed by more than 50% leading
utilities and IPPs are gaining the upper hand on the emerging group of CSP
startups and developers. Financially sound players are moving forward with
their 3,000 MW of planned projects as emerging players reevaluate their
strategies to survive off the $US420 million in capital raised in 2008.
- Development in Spain key to industry success as US market remains in the
balance: Spain' s 130 - project, 5,700 MW pipeline is taking on greater
significance amidst the cratering US economy and the lagging US permitting
process. With Iberian country' s looming 2010 feed - in tariff deadline, the
pending regulatory review is proving to be even more critical until the US and
Italian markets scale.
- CSP supply chain build - out creates opportunity for new entrants: A new
group of CSP technology providers are emerging to meet the 23 GW proposed
globally. EPC providers, cooling technology and salt suppliers, and mirror
manufacturers, are establishing themselves in the booming market with the most
advanced developers. As systems are validated in the field, CSP supply chain
will begin to shakeout.
