Abstract
This report by ElectroniCast Consultants provides the research findings of our
study of the 2008 worldwide consumption of packaged standard and high
brightness (HB) single and multiple-chip packaged (single-bulb and
multiple-chip/bulb single chip/bulb or device package) Light Emitting Diodes
(LEDs), which are used in signs (signage) and professional displays. This
report also provides ElectroniCast' s global market forecast covering the year
2009-2013. LEDs selectively used for signaling, such as traffic lights,
vehicle automobile signal/stop lights, and selected channel and lettering
signage displays are not included in this study.
The 2008-2013 market data for LEDs used in signage & professional displays are
segmented into the following geographic regions, plus a Global summary:
- Americas (North America, Central and South America)
- Europe (Western & Eastern Europe, plus Middle Eastern countries)
- Asia Pacific (APAC)
The market data for LEDs are also segmented into technology type:
- Standard or conventional
- High Brightness
Standard versus High-Brightness (HB) LEDs The global consumption value LEDs
used in signage & professional displays in 2008 was over $1.1 billion.
High-Brightness (HB) LEDs, in 2008, represented a 55 percent share of
worldwide consumption value of LEDs used in signage & professional displays.
The HB-LED market share is forecasted to increase to 60 percent and increase
in value in 2013, as detailed in Figure 1.
