Abstract
Australia has long lead the Asia Pacific region in terms of Internet
penetration, however, the country has lagged in broadband adoption. No more.
Last year, the nationwide availability of ADSL service, and increased
competition, led to falling prices and a 14.7% jump in broadband uptake. The
future looks bright- and faster.
The Australia Online report analyzes the changes that cheap broadband
is bringing to the continent' s Internet usage patterns, e-commerce and online
advertising.
The wide availability of broadband has particularly benefited Australia' s more
isolated areas- the North and South- which now lead the country in terms of
Internet penetration.
Younger Australians also benefit. Ninety percent of children aged 12-14 now
use the Internet, as well as 40% of 5-8 year olds. In fact, only older
Australians have been slow to adopt the Internet.
Key questions the "Australia Online" report answers:
- What is changing the demographic of Australia' s online population?
- Which geographic areas are growing the fastest online?
- How is cheaper broadband expanding online services?
- How much will Australian online shoppers be spending online?
- Why is online advertising expected to expand?
- What will be the affect of the mobile Internet?
- And many others...
