Abstract
This report provides an analysis of results of the annual Energy Insights-IDC
European Vertical Market Survey covering France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the
U.K. Analysis is focused on the utilities industry and is based on 99
interviews carried out between August and November 2007.
The purpose of this report is to understand current adoption, priorities and
plans to adopt IT solutions (both enterprise management and line of business
solutions) and new technologies.
This is the third report of a series of three covering the survey carried out
on utilities. The first report describes survey methodology, while the second
analyzes IS budget spending distribution and patterns in evolution, channel
selection, and satisfaction with primary IT suppliers among utility enterprises
in Western Europe.
"Generally speaking, the level of adoption of IT solutions supporting core
business processes is very high, at 80%, and even higher than enterprise
management solutions, at 63%. But a high level of adoption does not necessarily
translate into high quality or integrated solutions, and utilities are planning
to invest even in more mature areas like in ERP," said Roberta Bigliani, EMEA
research director, Energy Insights. "Customer care and billing remains as the
number 1 solution to invest in, immediately followed by network automation and
control."
