Abstract

Global plumbing product demand to rise 4.9% per year through 2010

Global demand for plumbing products is projected to increase 4.9 percent annually through 2010 to $54 billion. While the most highly developed markets (North America, Western Europe and Japan) account for the majority of demand, the greatest growth potential for plumbing products will occur in developing markets, such as China, India, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Africa/Mideast region. As these areas move to close the gap in fresh water and sanitation system infrastructure development, coupled with faster growth in construction activity and rising per capita GDP levels, demand for plumbing products will benefit.

Regulations, styling to drive plumbing product demand in developed areas

In developed nations, demand for plumbing products will benefit from a variety of non-economic factors. For example, the implementation of water conservation regulations in some markets is spurring increased demand for higher efficiency showers and dual-flush toilets. In addition, styling and fashion factors tend to be more of a demand driver in developed nations, particularly in the aftermarket. Bathrooms and kitchens are among the most common targets for home improvement projects, boosting demand for the full range of fixtures and fittings.
