Abstract
US demand to grow 4.4% annually through 2011
US demand for pharmaceutical excipients will expand 4.4 percent annually to
$3.1 billion in 2011. Growth opportunities will extend to a wide range of
compounds and applications. Based on advances in material quality and
processing safety, gelatin will remain the dominant compound for drug
encapsulation, warding off challenges from more expensive cellulosic and
vegetable oil derivatives. Due to the breadth of existing and potential
applications in drug formulations and delivery systems, cellulose derivatives
will eventually evolve into the top-selling group of pharmaceutical
excipients. These compounds will command especially strong growth
opportunities as controlled release agents and in specialty uses such as
enteric coatings and chewable tablets.
Study coverage
It presents historical demand data for 1996, 2001 and 2006 plus forecasts for
2011 and 2016 by excipient product and application. The study also considers
market environment factors, evaluates company market share data and profiles
50 US industry competitors.
