Abstract

US demand to rise 3.7% annually through 2012

Demand for cast polymers is forecast to increase 3.7 percent annually to 266 million square feet in 2012. Growth will be driven by increasing consumer desire for engineered stone -- primarily engineered quartz -- which is projected to advance 7.2 percent annually to 85.5 million square feet in 2012. Homeowners are attracted to engineered quartz because of its performance and aesthetic qualities. Engineered quartz features resistance to stains, impacts, moisture and other damages caused by wear and tear. The material can be easily cleaned, and has minimal maintenance requirements, making it ideal for consumers who want a durable surfacing material.

Additionally, engineered quartz is seen as an aesthetically pleasing material. Engineered quartz can look like natural stone, or can be made in a wide range of colors not normally seen in nature. The material can also be embedded with semiprecious stones or glass chips to create a visually attractive surface. Homeowners will increasingly install engineered quartz surfaces, feeling that they enhance the beauty of a home while increasing its value.
