Abstract

World HVAC demand will exceed $70 billion in 2012

World demand for HVAC equipment is projected to rise more than five percent per year through 2012, exceeding $70 billion. Demand in the Asia/Pacific region will outpace the global average, rising more than six percent annually through 2012.

The US, China and Japan are the largest producers of HVAC equipment. China has grown into a leading supplier of HVAC equipment, due to its inexpensive labor pool, which has made pricing of Chinese goods especially competitive. China has become a major producer in the room air conditioner segment, exporting products to the US, Western Europe and throughout Asia.

Asia/Pacific, Africa/Mideast to lead regional gains

China will be the fastest growing national market, benefitting from above-average urban population growth and healthy gains in the number of households, as well as rising income levels. Above-average growth will also occur in India due to solid gains in the number of households and rising per capita incomes. The other developing countries of Asia and Africa/Mideast will also post strong gains, reflecting rising standards of living in the regions.

Opportunities will also exist in developed regions. Demand in the US, for example, will exhibit recovery by 2012 after a period of sluggishness resulting from the housing crisis. Gains will also exist in Western Europe, as air conditioning becomes more common in residential buildings.
