Abstract
This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the telecommunications,
networking, and mobile solutions market in the European retail industry.
Several factual demonstrations are provided - including GRI 2008 survey among
451 EMEA retailers and IDC EVM survey among 190 EU retailers - to understand
retail telecom services spending directions, networking technologies, and
mobile solution priorities and investment plans, ecommerce and convergence
trends, as well as competitive landscape information.
"Global Retail Insights finds that network modernization is accelerating in
European retail," said Ivano Ortis, EMEA research director, Global Retail
Insights. "The trend to migrate from self-managed to managed IP networks is
currently accompanied by the centralization of retail store systems. In turn,
it is imperative for retailers to support choice in shopper purchase behavior
while ensuring total cross-channel transparency. Advanced IP networking
solutions are a critical enabler for retail enterprises in their move towards
better-managed store operations and next-generation shopping. Early action to
enable the networked, multichannel retail paradigm will make a major
contribution to achieving business consistency, simplification, more timely
reactions, and enablement of preemptive abilities for store managers and retail
line of business executives."
