Abstract
This IDC Government Insights Perspective covers the current administration' s leadership
in Web 2.0 technologies, including a presidential campaign that set
the stage for grassroots empowerment and the identification of agency
projects that are over budget and behind schedule. Web 2.0
technology can profoundly change the way we work, interact, and
collaborate. This document analyzes the current administration' s use of Web
2.0 technologies to provide relevant information to constituents and enhance
participation in decision making by opening up policy formulation to
a broader audience, collaborate in real time, and receive firsthand
customer feedback. As agencies experiment with social networking technologies, they
must be mindful of not only the ever-present management of
security and privacy risks but also measuring value to constituents/employees
and the impact on delivering their mission. This report is
based on IDC Government Insights' research and discussions with government
leaders who are deploying Web 2.0 technologies in their organizations.
