Abstract
New challenges in IT security mean the networked society must combine
interoperability and efficiency within a context of innovation with the
possibility of encountering risks deriving from the public sector,
organizations, citizens, and the information society at large. Protecting both
systems and data is the new guideline when integrating security infrastructure
at the network and platform level. Understanding IT security as a series of
complex and flexible processes, and beyond technology itself, is essential for
IT vendors that need to comply with the current requirements set by the sector.
"Vendors that want to win business in the government IT security space must
evolve from a traditional, perimeter-centric model to a data-centric model,"
said Silvia Piai, senior research analyst for Government Insights.
In this study IDC provides an analysis of results of the IDC Vertical Market
Survey carried out in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. The results
are based on 289 interviews in the government sector.
