Abstract
This Health Industry Insights report looks at nine inpatient electronic medical
record (EMR) vendors marketing systems in the United States - Cerner, CPSI,
Dairyland, Eclipsys, Epic Systems, GE Healthcare, M2, McKesson, and MEDITECH.
The market for inpatient clinical EMRs remains strong, with facilities in a
constant cycle of installing, replacing, upgrading, and adding functionality to
systems, so numerous inpatient clinical EMR applications and hospitals of all
sizes need to consider their clinical EMR needs through the lens of their
organizational goals, their own strengths and weaknesses, the functionality
they have already invested in, the architecture and infrastructure they can
readily support, and the resources that are available for projects.
According to Health Industry Insights research manager Judy Hanover, "It is
important for hospitals to select the application and architecture that provide
the functionality their facility demands, without adding unnecessary complexity
or demanding customization that an organization is not capable of maintaining."
