Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese
report IDC #J9010104) analyzes the new trends and market opportunities
in the Japan content delivery network (CDN) services market that
has gained renewed attention due to the penetration of broadband
and increased demand for rich content.
"Due to increased demand for
rich content such as videos, cost and operation limits that
come with using self-operated delivery systems are being reached, resulting
in increasing numbers of enterprises leveraging CDN services. On the
other hand, price competition is intensifying due to the economic
downturn, and CDN service providers are searching for businesses that
expand sales and improve profitability. The provision of value added
services that support the monetization of digital assets, and the
cultivation/support of sales channels are future challenges," comments Akiko Kawakami,
senior market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
