Abstract
This IDC study has portrayed the decline of the disk
storage market in 2008 due to the economy downturn, and
has analyzed the future growth in external disk market size,
hot spots, network connectivity, OSs, price band, and size class
respectively. Furthermore, the forecast for the next five years is
based on the current market situation, involving the macroeconomic growth
factors, new technology influences, and suppliers' market strategies.
"During the economy
downturn, disk storage system is no longer a tool to
protect business data value within the enterprise datacenter; it is
the core innovation to identify business opportunity and leverage existing
enterprise capability to achieve the opportunity. By understanding market contributors,
taking lessons from market practices, and initiating product uniqueness, storage
suppliers will be able to obtain a greater success in
the Asia/Pacific disk storage market. On the other hand, the
reduction of total cost of ownership (TCO) and energy usage
will be achieved by adopting suitable storage infrastructure and exercising
multiple system solutions. End users will largely rely on the
innovations like virtualization and "green." It is just a matter
of time before the disk storage systems will apply to
all sorts of roles in both enterprises and consumers," says
Reco Li, senior research analyst, Storage Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
