Abstract
This IDC study quantifies the U.S. A3/A4 MFP page volume
market in detail, analyzing issues, trends, and changes in device
usage. It contains IDC' s review and forecast of the U.S.
MFP page volume market for 20042013. The MFP installed base,
average monthly volume, average annual monthly volume, and total page
volume are presented in this document. Data for 20042008 is
actual, whereas data for 20092013 is projected. Key findings include:
- IDC
anticipates a small CAGR of 2.6% for the total U.S.
multifunction printer page volume market from 2008 to 2013. However,
there are pockets of opportunity within this market that show
substantially higher growth potential.
- The product segments exhibiting the strongest page
growth opportunity for vendors include the 3144ppm A3 color laser
segment; 3144ppm and 4569ppm A4 mono laser segments; and 1120ppm,
2130ppm, and 3144ppm A4 color laser segments.
"The substantial MFP shipment
declines exhibited in the fourth quarter of 2008 and the
first half of 2009 have led to a declining installed
base which, when coupled with flat and decreasing AMPVs, will
lead to declining total MFP page volume in 2009. Total
MFP page volume is expected to improve in 2010 and
continue to grow through 2013 due to shifts in page
volume from single-function printers to multifunction printers and further device
consolidation due to the economic downturn. In May and June
of 2009 there have been some positive signs that the
economic slowdown may be decelerating. IDC' s U.S. page volume MFP
forecast identifies the pockets of growth that exist in the
multifunction printer market, providing vendors with a target for R&D,
marketing, and sales investment to maximize return in an increasingly
competitive and difficult economy." Jake Wang, program manager, U.S.
