Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese
report, IDC #J9350104) analyzes the results of IDC' s Mobile Computing/SaaS
Survey, conducted in April 2009. Over the past few years,
the capabilities of mobile phones have achieved significant progress. They
have become one of the most familiar IT tools, and
are also being developed together with business applications. This study
scrutinizes the actual state of mobile computing utilization in enterprises,
the utilization situation, and the needs of software as a
service (SaaS) for business software.
"For corporate users, mobile phone/smartphone application
service provisioning (ASP)/SaaS software/services with high utilization rates were those
involving mobility, which is difficult to realize in solutions that
use notebook PCs as terminals software/services that calculate travel
expenses, manage access, and manage workers outside the office through
GPS. Instead of replacing existing PC markets, a new market
will be formed to meet mobility needs," comments Tomoko Akagi,
group manager, Software, IDC Japan.
