Abstract
This IDC study provides the classification scheme, or taxonomy, used by IDC to research and
analyze partnering and alliance activity. It includes definitions for three dimensions of partner
interactions: relationship type, business model, and business focus. Finally, it describes the
quantitative taxonomy used to present partner and alliance revenue and investment data.
As the partnering community continues to evolve, grow, and mature, it is increasingly important
for suppliers to understand the differences between the various segments. "Those that are adept
and have the ability to embrace these differences will reap the benefits. Suppliers that continue to
drive a one-size-fits-all model for all partners to all customer segments will lag behind." -
