Abstract
This IDC study presents data and analysis on the worldwide CD/DVD/bare media
and 5.25in./cartridge media optical automation markets. Data for 2003-2005 is
based on actual sales figures, whereas data for 2006-2010 is forecast. These
formats are analyzed by shipments and value of shipments by slot size. Detailed
data for both categories is provided in terms of market value, shipments,
average selling value, installed base, regional shipments, and market share.
The optical automation market showed a value decline in 2005. However, in 2006
and beyond the market will show signs of a recovery as Ultra Density Optical
(UDO) and Blu-ray Disc (BD) become more widely available.
"Compliance with regulatory requirements to accurately and reliably archive
data on permanent media will be a key driver for growth in the optical
automation market," said Wolfgang Schlichting, research director of the
Removable Storage program at IDC.
