Abstract
This IDC study presents an analysis and market overview of China's fixed-line
terminals, including IP telephones, integrated access devices (IADs), set-top
boxes (STBs), and Personal Handyphone System (PHS) handsets, and forecasts the
development direction of future fixed-line terminals via a demand-side survey -
IDC's China Consumer Fixed-Line Terminals and VAS End-User Demand Survey, 2006.
Meanwhile, IDC analyzes and forecasts the Chinese fixed-line services and
value-added services (VAS) market, especially the new fixed-line VASs of
transformation under the background of China's telecom transformation.
"The future fixed terminals will enhance telecom and mobility functionality.
This is consistent with the development trend of future fixed networks - both
voice and data transmitted by one IP network and fixed-mobile convergence
(FMC). Meanwhile, as an important demonstration of carrier durability in
innovation, the share of VASs in the revenue of carriers has been considered an
important index for its value evaluation. Both China Telecom and China Netcom
will pay greater attention to improve VASs, especially as fixed voice services
continue to decline, and carriers are determined to implement the strategy of
transformation," says Elain Yi, market analyst, Telecommunications Group, IDC
China.
