Abstract

This IDC study examines on-demand provider strategies. As part of IDC's ongoing research efforts around the software-on-demand delivery model, IDC conducted interviews with 21 companies in the winter and spring of 2006 to understand each company's approach to delivering, supporting, and positioning software-on-demand offerings. The focus of these interviews included the following:

  • Overall software-on-demand strategy
  • Operational strategy
  • Service strategy
  • Channel and alliance strategy
  • Pricing strategy
  • Software-on-demand trends including international demand, investor appeal, offshore strategies, and future business changes

"The variety of providers that are highlighted in this study demonstrates the diversity of methodologies vendors are using to deliver software-on-demand solutions," said Erin Traudt, research analyst for IDC's Software as a Service program. "Success in delivering on-demand solutions will come from establishing best practices, strong partnerships, and actively listening to critical customer feedback because customers are the ones that will make or break the on-demand journey."
