Abstract

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J6030103) presents the 2001-2005 performance of the market for Fibre Channel (FC) switch which form the main components of SAN (storage area networks) in Japan; and the market forecast for the period up to 2010. The shipment results are analyzed based on unit shipments, port shipments and factory revenue. The forecast are analyzed based on port shipments and factory revenue. FC switches are divided into three categories, namely -- fixed port switch, chassis switch, and blade server-embedded switch. Their market sizes are calculated and forecast in this report. Meanwhile, FC hub, ESCON (Enterprise System Connection) director, SAN router and software are ignored in this study.

"The segment driving the growth of the Japan FC switch market is changing along with the SAN investment trends. It is important for FC switch vendors to establish growth strategies in response to these changes," observes Masaaki Moriyama, group director, Server/Storage Group, IDC Japan.
