Abstract

This IDC study presents IDC' s Project Skypad, 2006 findings related to key urban Internet trends in nine markets across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ after interviewing about 5,000 Internet users. Project Skypad aims to investigate the ownership of key IT and consumer electronics (CE) devices; broadband penetration; broadband television (TV); as well as awareness, ownership, and usage of home networking, home automation, and media-centric networks.

"Several of the key enablers of the entire digital entertainment ecosystem, including multiple-PC households, high-speed Internet access, home networking equipment, and wireless access have only strengthened in the past year. The survey results showed that the number of Internet users in APEJ with home networks continues to grow," says Claudio Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. "However, as majority of the users continue to embrace home networking for its practical, data-centric applications, home networking technologies will continue to have difficulty in branching out into entertainment-related activities," he adds.
