Abstract

This IDC study was based on an end-user survey of 500 Australian gamers conducted in mid-November 2006. The survey was designed to examine issues critical to players in the videogaming market, including gamers' levels of interest in online gaming, willingness to pay for downloaded add-on content, and purchase intentions within the next 12 months.

"The battle for next-generation gaming has already started with Microsoft Xbox 360 making its first debut locally in March 2006. Microsoft' s entrance was followed by Nintendo in late 2006, and Sony' s PlayStation 3 (PS3) is due on Australian shores in March 2007. The videogaming industry has never been this exciting, thus making this a prime time to understand gamers' behaviour and motivation," says Sophie Lo, research analyst, Consumer Digital Markets, IDC Australia.
