Abstract
This IDC study provides IDC' s analysis of business outsourcing contracts for
the five-year period from 2002 to 2006. The study draws directly from IDC' s
Worldwide Service Contract Analysis offering, which is one of the largest and
richest repositories of services contracts in the market. This document
provides detailed information on size of deals, length of deals, industries,
geographic coverage, and vendors. Additionally, this study provides detailed
analysis on trends affecting the business outsourcing market and contract
opportunities as well as guidance on how players can compete most effectively.
"Players looking to compete successfully in the market for delivering BPO
services, whether industry specific or horizontally based (e.g., F&A, HR) will
need to develop very robust platform-based strategies that leverage newer
delivery models in the form of utility computing and software as a service
(SaaS). Many players will need to make radical adjustments to their delivery
capabilities, partnership ecosystems, business models, and service offerings,
as well as extend their view of who they are and will be competing with while
pursuing not only the potential opportunities that lie within the traditional
market of business process services but also those that lie beyond in the world
of non-IT." - David Tapper, program VP, Outsourcing, Utility, and Offshore
Services research at IDC.
