Abstract
This IDC study assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the top players in the
mobile devices space in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ. International
vendors Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Reliance Classic, and LG are
examined, as are regional vendors like HTC, or vendors planning to enter Asia
like Apple.
"APEJ represents diversity in market maturity as well as preference, so mobile
phone manufacturers are constantly juggling their marketing strategies, product
portfolios, and technologies in step with the developments in the region. What
was years ago a stagnant Nokia is now an almost 50% dominance of APEJ. Motorola
had the runaway hit with the RAZR, but is now trying to rebuild after several
quarters of losses. Samsung and Sony Ericsson have maintained their positions
overall, but Reliance Classic has upset LG both in ranking and CDMA shipments,"
says Melissa Chau, Associate Market Analyst, Mobile Devices Research, IDC
Asia/Pacific.
