Abstract
This IDC study updates the previously published Asia/Pacific Branded Tape Drive
Market, 2007-2011(IDC #AP2671IDP, August 2007). It relates to the single tape
drive market and provides the following market data:
- A summary of the market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ in 1H07 compared with 1H06
- Revenue and unit shipments broken down by country, class segment/technology, and vendor
- Forecasts of the market from 2007 to 2011 for the region, as well as separate forecasts for each of the 13 countries covered
"As competitive price pressures within open tape formats continued to "thin"
vendor margins, the market for single tape drives gave way to mounting pressure
from competitively priced tape automation systems. Overall, customer revenue
and unit shipments fell 9.6% and 16.3%, respectively, compared with 1H06.
Although a strong recovery in most of the region' s economies was observed,
resulting in the expectation of a flow-through effect on IT investments, IDC
believes that the tape automation market rather than the single tape drive
market will benefit from the increased spending. Therefore, the APEJ market for
single tape drives is projected to decline in revenue (-6.4%) and unit
shipments (-7.6%) over the next five years,". says Cheryl Ganesan-Lim, market
analyst, Storage Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
