Abstract

This IDC study presents a forecast and analysis of the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) digital set-top box (STB) market. Market segments examined and forecast in this study are digital cable, digital satellite, hybrid boxes combining cable TV and broadband networks, and Internet Protocol television (IPTV) STBs. This study covers developments in the digital STB market in the following key markets: Australia, India, Korea, the People' s Republic of China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the rest of Asia/Pacific This study also highlights a number of key trends in the pay TV STB market in APEJ. This forecast does not include free-to-air boxes used for satellite and terrestrial reception outside the context of a pay TV subscription.

"Driven by rapid digitization and continued economic growth, shipments of digital STBs in 2006 grew by 111.7% over 2005," says Claudio Checchia, research manager, Consumer Markets. "The pay TV segment of the APEJ digital set-top box market is forecast to reach more than 61 million units across the three key segments of cable, satellite, and IPTV."
