Abstract

This IDC study, which discusses the results of the Asia/Pacific Comms07 Survey, gives an overview of small enterprises' present use and future deployments of Internet access services, broadband, IP VPN, and IP applications across the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ region.

"Small enterprises have been known to be cost centric and the slowest to embrace new technologies and applications. Cost is the main factor sought by the majority of enterprises in this segment in selecting their primary telecommunications service providers (SPs). Nonetheless, as telecommunications services mature and subscription grows, these services become more affordable to the market. This is the key factor that drives the migration of small enterprises to higher bandwidth and the implementation of sophisticated applications. This is apparent as findings in the current survey shows a high penetration of broadband Internet access services as well as IP VPN usage," says Claus Mortensen, principal, Emerging Technologies, IDC Asia/Pacific.
