Abstract
This IDC study reviews the growth of the Windows Server product family during
2007 and provides a shipment and installed base forecast through 2012 for the
Windows SOE products. This document considers the continued adoption of Windows
Server 2003 and the growing uptake of Windows Server 2008 starting this year.
"Windows Server 2008 presents both a disruption and a tremendous opportunity
for existing Windows customers," said Al Gillen, research VP, System Software
at IDC. "Given the enormous size of the Windows Server 2003 installed base, we
expect that uptake for Windows Server 2008 will get underway slowly, with
growth accelerating through 2008, especially after the Microsoft Hyper-V
technology enters the market."
