Abstract
This IDC study provides our 2008-2012 forecast for home networking in the
United States. Even as consumers have yet to fully embrace entertainment and
multimedia networking, the past year has been marked by a rapid escalation in
the development of a diverse home networking ecosystem. New applications,
clients, and technologies are demonstrating that home networks are clearly
maturing beyond basic data networking functions.
"New attempts at integrating networked devices with online services are making
significant inroads into the market, creating a dynamic that allows mass-market
consumers to embrace multimedia networking applications and to broaden their
understanding of the potential uses for their home networks," said Jonathan
Gaw, research manager for IDC' s Consumer Markets: Home Networking program.
