Abstract
This IDC forecast details the growth in shipments of converged mobile devices
(CMDs) over the forecast period from 2008 to 2012. Shipments of CMDs will grow
from 124.6 million in 2007 to 376.2 million in 2012. This study examines the
key trends in each region around the world that drive the very different rates
of growth in CMDs.
"Converged mobile devices continue to grow in prominence within the wireless
industry as new players enter the market, speeding innovation and intensifying
competition," says Chris Hazelton, senior analyst in IDC' s Mobile Device
Technology and Trends program. "This is the hot new battleground for carriers,
content providers, device vendors, application developers, and new media
players like Google that see the CMD as critical to their mobile aspirations."
