Abstract

This IDC study examines small and medium-sized businesses' current printer and MFP brand and technology ownership and preferences for future purchases. Additionally, this study presents some results of IDC' s analysis of SMB preferences for printers and MFPs by clusters based on attitudes toward technology investment and implementation. For more details about the results of IDC' s cluster analysis of small and medium-sized businesses, see SMB Cluster Analysis: Targeting Key Market Segments Such as SMB 2.0 Firms (IDC #209414, November 2007).

"As printer and MFP ownership approaches saturation, three factors will characterize the SMB segment: the increasing appeal of multifunction devices, the critical role played by replacement and additional machines, and the rapid adoption of more sophisticated color laser and solid ink technology," said Justin Jaffe, IDC senior research analyst, SMB/Home Office. "It is important for vendors hoping to increase their share of this growing market to understand the changing brand and technology preferences for printers and MFPs."
