"The applications services market has seen an uptick in activity in 2007 and
early 2008. Organizations in Europe have begun investing to expand their
businesses, and this requires some updating of their applications portfolio.
Modernization and rationalization is one theme, making the systems fit for
purpose. Expanding and improving business functionality is the other," said
David Bradshaw, research manager, European Software and Services at IDC. "We
expect some fall off in growth due to the turmoil in financial markets, but we
still expect growth in 2008 and beyond."
