Abstract
This IDC study is based on IDC' s Continuum Survey conducted in March 2007, with
79 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. This study highlights
new trends and developments in terms of SME IT buying behavior and future
expenditure. This study covers SMEs' IT hardware buying patterns, particularly
PC, server, and storage purchases. Hardware spending remained a priority in
SMEs' IT spending plans. With regard to SMEs' IT spending objectives, nearly
37.8% of the IT spending was allocated for maintenance purposes, while new
strategic investment remained low.
"Hardware will continue to drive IT spending in Malaysia. Also, SMEs plan to
implement business applications, which only meet their requirements and good
warranty support at a reasonable cost. In addition, SMEs' most important
requirements revolve around reducing IT cost every year over a period of time,
" says Jaygan Fu Ponnudurai, associate market analyst, Personal Systems, IDC
Malaysia.
