Abstract
This IDC study presents IDC' s five-year forecast for Asia/Pacific (excluding
Japan) or APEJ unified communications (UC) market through 2012. It provides
forecast for 12 countries including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia,
Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, the People' s Republic of China
(PRC), Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. IDC also provides country-level
forecasts for various segments within UC. IDC forecasts that the total APEJ UC
revenue will grow from US$772 million in 2008 to US$1,554 million in 2012 at a
compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19%. The study provides the country wise
forecast for each product segment under UC - unified messaging (UM), instant
messaging (IM), voice and Web conferencing, videoconferencing, and IP contact
center.
"In 2007, new product launches with improved UC-specific features and a
sustained push for migration and upgrades led to a surge in UC adoption in the
Asia/Pacific region," says Shalini Verma, research manager, Telecommunications
Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. "The challenge for the industry is to evolve from
point solutions to deeper integration of voice and presence with business
applications."
