Abstract

This IDC study investigates what types of PCs businesses have purchased and what is motivating their choices for their next PCs. For this survey - completed in September 2007 - 432 IT buyers were polled from small, medium-sized, and large businesses. The results are presented in separate documents analyzing the kinds of PCs currently in use and what is motivating companies' choices when looking for new systems. This first study discusses what commercial PC buyers have already purchased.

"Commercial PC buyers tend to be conservative in their technology choices, and we have seen no indication of a change in that behavior. This is mainly because significant investment is often involved in a technology choice, so a change often entails even more investment or the writing off of investment, neither of which is a popular proposition. A conservative approach often also means a gradual trial process before adoption of a new technology." - Richard Shim, research manager, Personal Computing
