Abstract

This IDC study analyzes the broadband markets of six Gulf countries - Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. The focus is primarily on the main technologies, namely DSL, cable modem, fixed wireless, and metro Ethernet. An overview of the current situation and upcoming trends is given for each country and technology, along with lists and brief descriptions of important providers.

"Legacy narrowband services (dial-up) still account for a huge share of the market in Kuwait and Oman, while broadband is increasingly gaining market share in other GCC markets due to market liberalization, investments in broadband infrastructure, tariff cuts, and bandwidth increases. Broadband Internet services have yet to achieve their full potential in the region, however, resulting in huge pent-up demand." - Deepika Mital, Analyst, MEA.
