Abstract
This IDC study provides forecasts for and analyses of the Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) or APEJ mobile services market for 11 countries in the region
- Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, the People' s Republic
of China (PRC), Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. This study
also provides a review of the mobile markets in the said countries, SP and
competitive performances in 2007, and how subscriber and service trends have
evolved. Forecast data is also provided for the total number of mobile
subscribers and the mobile penetration rates and the total mobile service
revenue segmented by service type - mobile voice and non voice - and by
subscription - prepaid and contract.
"With the world' s most populous countries' (the PRC and India) unabated thirst
for mobile services, APEJ remains the fastest-growing region in the world. The
importance of the rural submarkets in emerging markets will continue to
increase as time goes by, especially if metropolitan areas become more
saturated. 2007 will be remembered as the year of High-Speed Downlink Packet
Access (HSDPA) services and the full realization of what it means to have
mobile broadband services. 3G subscribers grew 70% in 2007," says Alex Chau,
senior research manager, Mobile and Wireless Technologies/Services Research,
IDC Asia/Pacific.
